There are countless reasons to choose private jets over commercial airlines, including better privacy, more luxury, and increased convenience. However, private jet safety is another huge advantage that is often overlooked (compared to commercial flights), and below are just a handful of reasons why that is.
1 – Passengers Are Vetted and Accounted For
With commercial airlines, most passengers will only need to provide their name, date of birth, and basic passport details. Almost anyone could be on your flight, with unknown intentions, and could potentially pose a threat to everyone on board.
Private jet passengers, on the other hand, are always personally vetted by the brokers booking the flights. Since the brokers interact directly with each passenger, instead of hiding behind an online booking process, they can easily find out who they are, why they’re flying, and whether they are a suitable passenger.
Furthermore, everybody on board of a private jet will probably know each other, as they’re usually booked for families, friend groups, and even business partners. This provides an additional level of security – there’s no need to worry about having to deal with strangers on the plane and their unpredictable behaviour.
2 – Better Safety Checks
The safety checks carried out on private jets are much more rigorous than with commercial planes, making them a much safer option. Commercial airlines often have a very fast turnaround time, with some planes flying multiple routes per day. This means that there is very little time to ensure everything is working correctly before the next departure.
Private jet safety records, however, are always up to date and have much more downtime in between departures, allowing for more detailed safety checks to be performed. Many private jet charters employ third-parties to conduct these checks, to ensure that the checks are carried out by someone with no personal interest in or opinion on the company.
3 – Familiar Crew Members
Flying in private jets means being able to meet the crew and getting to know them before setting off! Not only does that make the trip more pleasant, as you have the chance to meet someone new, but you will also feel much safer while flying, as a familiar face is always better than a stranger in any situation.
If you are a frequent flyer, there is a very good chance of regularly flying with the same crew and pilot. This just adds to the comfort and safety of your trip, as you will have the peace of mind that you’re travelling with highly skilled and experienced crew members every single time.
While commercial airlines also employ very skilled crew members, you will almost never fly with the same people twice, and you definitely will not get the chance to get to know them better. This more distanced approach can make some passengers feel more anxious in case of any emergencies, providing yet another reason to choose private flying over commercial.
4 – Fewer Passengers, Better Service
A majority of the time, private jets will be much smaller than commercial planes, so there will be fewer people onboard. This means that there will be fewer, if any, opportunities to cut corners – if there are only 5 passengers on a private jet, it will be very unlikely to run out of life jackets for everyone, or to overlook a malfunctioning seatbelt. This also means that the planes will last longer, as fewer passengers means less wear and tear. Unlike with commercial flights, the price of booking a private jet does not depend on the number of seats filled, so private charters will never be forced to have overworked staff, overbooked seats, and overlooked safety measures. If anything, the safety measures are emphasised more heavily than on commercial flights, as the lower passenger volume allows for additional time and care to be put into the service.
